South Carter FOT48 09-08-12
Nineteen Mile Brook Trail, Carter Dome Trail, Carter-Moriah Trail 9.2 mile round trip.
We were the summit coordinators for South Carter for the 11th annual 9-11 Memorial hike. Our crew for various reasons was reduced to Boo and Madhatter this year. The small numbers did not deter us from getting the flag up to summit in plenty of time for the noon raising. The day turned out to be cloudy and fairly breezy and the wind did prevent us from flying the flag above the trees for more than a few minutes. We had a number of visitors throughout the two hours of flag flying time and everyone was very pleasant. One special visitor was Jeff from Connecticut who is a fireman from NYC who was at Ground Zero on the day of the attacks. He appreciated our efforts for the remembrance. After taking down the flag, we satrted back down and was within a half hour of the trail head when the rain started to fall. It didn't dampen our spirits. We're always proud to be part of this special event.
